This Privacy Policy explains how the Ayo mobile application (the “App”) handles information. It applies to the App published on Google Play by Mesix (the “Developer”, “we”, “us”). Please read it carefully.
Ayo is a personal dictionary: you build up dictionaries of words, either by typing them in yourself or by capturing them from a photo or a passage of text. What happens to your information depends on whether you sign in:
The dictionaries, groups and words you create — including each word's meanings, example sentences and your study progress — are saved only in local storage on your own device. In this mode this data is never sent to our servers, and we have no ability to access or retrieve it.
The App does still send crash reports and basic usage diagnostics to Google Firebase while signed out — see Diagnostics and analytics below. These tell us that the App was opened or that it crashed; they never include the words, translations, examples or passages you work with.
Capturing words — from a photo or from a passage of text you write or paste — always involves our servers, whether or not you are signed in, because reading the material and extracting vocabulary from it is done by an AI model. This is metered in AI Credits; signed-out use receives none, so a signed-in account is needed before this feature can be used.
Either way, the photo or text is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API so it can identify words, their meanings, part of speech and example usage. We store the resulting job record — including a temporary copy of the extracted words, purged automatically after about 30 days, and the token counts and cost used to charge your AI Credits, kept indefinitely for accounting — but the words themselves are only added to your dictionary once you review and confirm them in the App; nothing is written to your account without that step.
Pronunciation and translation are different: they never leave your device. Ayo's speaker button uses your phone's own built-in text-to-speech engine, and its translate button uses an on-device translation model (Google ML Kit). Neither sends any text anywhere, needs no account, and costs no AI Credits.
When you sign in with Google, we collect and process the following:

To keep the App stable and to understand how it is used, the App uses Google Firebase to collect crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) and basic usage events such as app opens and which screens and features are used (Firebase Analytics). This applies whether or not you are signed in. These reports never contain the words, translations, examples or passages you work with — no lemma, translation, example sentence, captured passage, dictionary name or email is ever included; only enumerations and counts, such as which capture source or which game was used.
Alongside these events, Firebase Analytics collects your device's advertising ID — a resettable identifier provided by Google Play services — together with general device and app information such as device model, operating system version, app version and country. We use this only for analytics: to understand overall usage of the App and to improve it.
We do not show ads in the App. We do not use the advertising ID to target, serve or measure advertising within the App, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We use it to measure the effectiveness of our own ad campaigns that promote the App on Google Ads. You can reset your advertising ID, or delete it entirely, at any time from your device's Settings (typically under Settings → Privacy → Ads). Deleting it does not affect any feature of the App.
Firebase Analytics also derives an approximate location from your device's IP address. This is only accurate to a broad area such as your city or country, and we use it only for analytics. The App does not use GPS, does not request any location permission, and never collects your precise location. As with the diagnostics above, this applies whether or not you are signed in.
We share data only with the service providers necessary to operate the features above:
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or third-party data brokers.
Data stored only on your device is protected by your operating system's standard app-sandboxing; your backend session tokens are additionally kept in the platform keystore, never in plain preferences. Cloud-synced data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored on access-controlled servers. Signing in is handled entirely by Google — your Google password is never seen by, sent to, or received by us. Google simply confirms your identity to the App, which then uses session tokens issued by our own backend.
Ayo sells one-time AI Credit packs, not a subscription, so there is nothing to cancel — a purchase is complete the moment it is made. Payments are processed by Google Play; we never hold your card details. If you ever buy a pack, the receipt — the product, the price, the purchase date and the store's verification response — is kept after account deletion for accounting purposes, unlinked from your account: full detail in Delete your account § Purchase records.
The App is not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
